I had planned to space these essays out and read one per night, but I ended up reading the entire book in one sitting. I love Anne Fadiman. Her writing is intellectual, engaging, witty, discreet, and grounded. The essays cover a variety of topics of personal interest to the author -- Arctic exploration, coffee, ice cream, Charles Lamb, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, moving from the city to the country.
