I think I might like Edith Wharton's short stories better than her novels. She gives me so much anxiety -- she does the most horrible things to her characters -- and the shortened format makes it much less agonizing to read.
These were four short novels.
Four stars for
The Touchstone and
Madame de Treymes and three stars for
Sanctuary and
The Bunner Sisters (though I'm tempted to add a half a star for the most inadvertently hilarious death bed confession ever).
